Project Overview
Bechtel is among the most respected engineering, project management, and construction companies in the world. Bechtel operates through four global business units that specialize in infrastructure; mining and metals; nuclear, security and environmental; and energy. Today, our colleague's team with customers, partners, and suppliers on diverse projects in nearly 40 countries. The Energy Global Business Unit (GBU) is executing construction of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and export facility on a site located on the western shoreline of the Port Arthur Canal in Jefferson County, Texas. The project base scope includes two (2) identical LNG trains, two (2) LNG Storage Tanks, one (1) LNG Carrier Berth, and associated utilities/facilities. The Project is being constructed on a parcel of land located at State Highway 87 south of Port Arthur, Texas, between the inner coastal waterway bridge and Keith Lake. The candidate will serve as the Office Surveyor on the upcoming Port Arthur LNG project. The work location is Port Arthur, TX.
Position Summary
The role is based on the Port Arthur Liquefaction Project site (7 miles south of Port Arthur, Texas), and works a 48-hour extended work week. The successful candidate will be willing and able to work a reasonable amount of overtime and if required night shift, as needed to support safe project execution.
Assigned to the Construction organization as the Office Surveyor / UAV Pilot (OS/UAVP), responsible for providing survey computations and drafting support as required to the construction survey team and responsible for the project’s UAV/Drone Program. The OS/UAVP reports directly to the Project Survey Manager (PSM) and the Chief UAS Pilot. The OS/UAVP interprets design drawings and specifications to determine associated commodities and equipment locations and provides support to the Area Lead Surveyors (ALS) and their assigned field survey teams in support of the civil, structural, mechanical, and piping installations in the work area. The OS/UAVP is also responsible for the planning and safe execution of the project’s UAV/Drone flights and processing of the photogrammetric images/data.
Responsibilities
The OS/UAVP's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist with the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs
Assist the PSM or ALS by providing support to other Office Surveyors
Support the implementation and administration of the Survey Work Request program
Ensure that survey office calculations activity execution supports construction schedule
Develop and maintain survey data
Review and approve survey data from field crews and ensure survey documentation is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner
Provide office technical support to the survey team including processing of survey data and preparation of deliverables utilizing survey industry best practices
Support with the Verification of the Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary control points
Identifying the location of underground services and maintaining a drawing with as-built underground installations to support excavation permitting process
Prepare survey CAD drawings as required in the performance of duties, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations
Provide Civil project completion data and documentation including "As-Built" records
Plan and execute the projects UAV/Drone program; responsible for the overall quality and integrity of the project’s UAV program
Pilot the UAV and/or train and supervise other pilots
Submit the photogrammetric images/data captured from the flights for processing; check and confirm the quality of the UAV flight deliverables prior to submitting to the project
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications
Engineering/Technical degree and 6 years’ experience in heavy construction/industrial surveying, involving a mix of field and office duties with modern instruments, software, and technology with at least 3 years’ supervisorial experience; or in lieu of a degree, 12 years’ experience, with at least 3 years’ supervisorial experience
Must have and maintain a current FAA Part 107 – Remote Pilot’s Certificate (or better)
Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including verification of employment and education
Must be able to live and work in the USA without sponsorship
Additional Qualifications
Prior Bechtel Survey Mega-Project experience
Knowledge of Bechtel’s - Unmanned Aerial System Operations Procedure
Experience with 3D Laser Scanning hardware and software
Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience
Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Incidents” safety program. Must have a strong drive toward Safety, both on and off the job, a commitment to seeing everyone go home each day as well and healthy as they came to work that day.
Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards and must have a solid record of successful project completion with little to zero rework
Knowledge of heavy industrial construction survey principles
Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to heavy industrial construction surveying field & office activities
Working knowledge of Bechtel construction procedures
Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner
Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with survey team members, other departments, and contractors
Demonstrated advanced proficiency in MS Office apps, including: Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
Excellent problem-solving ability
Demonstrated proficiency with Survey CAD software, such as TBC (Trimble Business Center) and AutoCAD Civil 3D; including proficiency with construction layout computations and generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations; and drafting of as staked/as-built data
Demonstrated proficiency with transferring data to and from field data controllers
General awareness of environmental laws and government compliance standards
Must have demonstrated experience piloting UAV’s, both rotary and fixed wing
Must have working knowledge of UAV Flight Data / Photogrammetry processing software
Must be physically capable to participate in project walkdowns, which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in or maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 40lbs without assistance
This project may have multiple work schedules that are subject to change and may require employees to work overtime, weekends and/or night shift when a business need arises
