POSITION OVERVIEW

The Safety Leader will be responsible for all health and safety programs, initiatives, and regulatory compliance activities at the Ironwood Portage Plant.  The incumbent will work to audit, implement, and maintain compliance to corporate Safety policies and procedures.  The Safety Leader will work closely with the Safety teams at the Appleton and Singapore locations and lead the Encapsys safety program. The candidate must be capable of identifying process hazards, evaluating the risk of those hazards, and assist in the development of effective solutions to mitigate risk. As our safety structure grows this position may have direct reports in the future to help drive the safety culture at each location.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, implement, maintain, and lead the company-wide and Ironwood Portage Plant specific programs, systems, procedures, policies and activities which ensure health, safety and regulatory compliance for our employees and the community.
Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) on existing and new processes.
Provide oversight for the site Management of Change (MOC) Process regarding safety.
Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for incidents and near misses.

·    Provide oversight and conduct compliance audits and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews

·    Participate on teams responsible to implement new products and processes.

Develop safety training plans and related safety alerts based upon needs of the plant.
Inspect plant facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards and recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated.
Work cross functionally with HR, operations management, and insurance carriers in administration of the W/C and OSHA programs. 
Cooperate in the preparation of materials and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
Ensure safety committees are meeting and meaningful. Work with committees to develop robust governance programs for critical safety initiatives and projects.
Develop plant Emergency Response team to include team of people, cadence of meetings, follow up and actions.
Review and approve Portage Plant capital and product development projects relative to safety.
Lead Safety continuous improvement efforts.
Oversee compliance of a safety programs including Lock Out Tag Out, confined space entry, electrical safety, hoists, fork and aerial lift safety, hot work permits, fall protection, power tool safety and machine guarding.
Manage contractor safety program and visitor requirements for the site.
Manage industrial hygiene monitoring, ergonomics program, and hearing conservation program at site.
Lead and ensure PSM compliance, where applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience
3+ years of experience in Chemical manufacturing
Experience with performance management systems 
Hazardous material handling experience
Self-directed with strong organization, communication, and attention to detail skills.
Strong computer skills with an understanding of common office and statistical software programs
Strong report writing and grammar skills
Strong presentation skills
Experience with Safety software systems (Enablon, Maximo, etc.) a plus

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

BS or BA degree in chemical engineering
Safety management degree
MS or MBA
3+ years of experience in chemical industry
DOT, GHS, PSM, TSCA, and OSHA 10/40 certification a plus
Knowledge of HAZMAT and related safety experience
Knowledge in federal, state, fire safety and workers compensation laws
