Meta is seeking a data center Mechanical Subject Matter Expert to join our Data Center Facility Operations team. Our data centers serve as the foundation upon which our systems operate to meet the demands of our customers. The Mechanical Subject Matter Expert will be a part of the facility operations team and will be responsible for being the mechanical system technical operations expert. The candidate will need to have a broad understanding of mechanical system and equipment function and will be responsible for procedure-based mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, training, and project oversight. The Mechanical Subject Matter Expert will need to be experienced in diverse technologies such as chiller systems, evaporative cooling, DX cooling, water distribution and treatment, emergency diesel generators, fire suppression systems, and have a working knowledge of building automation systems and electrical distribution.
Mechanical Subject Matter Expert Responsibilities
Serve as primary onsite technical resource as part of a team of mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment, with an emphasis on practical/field application
Author or approve work procedures to cover mechanical troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance activities, with an emphasis on assessing & mitigating personnel and system risk
Conduct or oversee hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment
Provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) oversight of initial campus construction, retrofit projects & maintenance activity
Lead and/or participate in root cause analysis activities in area of expertise, specifically mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment
Oversight of water quality management program
Provide training to Critical Facility Engineers and other cross functional teams on mechanical/fire & life safety/industrial water equipment/systems and procedures
Provide feedback on global mechanical maintenance strategies and global mechanical system design improvements
Manage vendor relationships for mechanical system maintenance and retrofit work
Other duties as required to support the operation of Meta Data Centers
Travel expectations: Can be significant during first 1-3 months for initial training/onboarding and then ongoing occasional travel for factory witness tests, collaboration, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
7+ years relevant mechanical industry experience or mechanical trade level experience
Working knowledge of psychrometric charts
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, and Outlook
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience interpreting blueprints/CAD drawings
Working knowledge of critical facility operations with experience or understanding of procedure-based work
Significant experience in comprehending mechanical plans, specifications, and equipment shop drawings
Working knowledge of electrical, and life safety monitoring and control systems typically used in critical environments
Bachelor’s degree in related field plus 3+ years relevant mechanical industry experience will be considered in lieu of 7+ years mechanical industry experience
Experience working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment
Preferred Qualifications
Trade Certification or state license in Mechanical (HVAC)
7+ years’ experience in a data center or other critical environment
Equipment field service engineering experience
