Job Description

General Summary:

Obtains all business licenses required to operate and offer a full product line to customers for both new store openings and relocations. These licenses include general business licenses based on gross receipts and inventory, beer and wine licenses, tobacco licenses, health permits, and other licenses as required.  Researches, prepares, files, processes, and remits appropriate applications and payments to comply with the rules and regulations as prescribed in each jurisdiction for new licenses.  Assists in maintaining various licensing and property tax databases. Conducts extensive tracking of project completion through specialized spreadsheets with respect to new store research and expected license dates. Reviews and redacts leases as required as part various specialized and regulated product applications. Prepares, reviews, and remits applications to include personal information of officers and field personnel where appropriate. Partners with field leadership and other SSC partners, vendors, and licensing officials to facilitate the competition of all store and manager level requirements related to selling alcohol and tobacco products.  Partners with field leadership and SSC partners to transfer existing alcohol and tobacco to new locations during the relocation process. Assist Project Leader, Licensing Supervisor, and Licensing Manager with new license projections.  Encouraged to provide recommendations for process improvements.

Responsibilities:

Obtaining all initial licenses for assigned stores, including operational, alcohol, and tobacco licenses. This will include:

§ Researching, coordinating, preparing, processing, and remitting assigned license applications and payments to the appropriate jurisdictions.

§ Reviewing license renewals and tax payments for accuracy including any changes made based on historical and/or third party data.

§ Collaborating with the appropriate teams to gather sensitive information such as fingerprints, background checks, Officer and Field PII, redacting leases, site surveys, and coordinating hearing with field leadership and attorneys.

§ Coordinating regularly with third party legal counsel to obtain new licenses and work through issues.

Partners with Operations, Merchandising, Store Facilities Maintenance, company officers, and Landlords where needed to obtain relevant information related to obtaining licenses and working with the field and jurisdictions to schedule and resolve any outstanding licensing requirements. This may include inspections, background checks, disclosures, and training while relaying relevant information to the proper teams for resolution.

Assists with maintenance of various licensing databases to account for all license jurisdictions, applications, tax payments, and register restrictions in addition to licensing compliance efforts by recording and sending new licenses, set guides, and required signage to newly licensed stores. This role also assists the inventory team and field leadership with transferring alcohol and tobacco during relocations and store closures.

Creates and maintains new license projections for alcohol and tobacco sales and assists Manager with monthly licensing milestone updates and project status delays.

Qualifications:

Good organizational, Planning, and proactive prioritization skills to meet and maintain stringent deadlines and accomplish goals.

Ability to work proficiently with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.

Ability to interact with government jurisdictions and other departments to obtain relevant information and make appropriate decisions.

Ability to work independently, as part of a group, and in gray areas to solve challenges.

Ability to review data, breakdown critical decision points, and effectively communicate any challenges.

Ability to negotiate complex issues with jurisdictions, and other internal departments to find common ground and leverage beneficial outcomes.

Solution based problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage conflict and difficult conversations.

Work Experience and/or Education:

Bachelor Degree in business or related field preferred.
Two to four years of licensing, operations, or communications experience required.
Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Basic knowledge of general office accounting preferred.
