Job Description:

Caterpillar Large Power Systems Division is looking for a Senior Design Engineer to support the development of Advanced Power Products Battery Systems.  The Advanced Power Products Battery Systems organization is accountable for Caterpillar’s energy storage solutions serving a wide variety of mobile and stationary applications.  

This role will design, analyze, and implement low voltage electrical systems for battery packs and racks within New Technology Introduction (NTI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.  In addition to completing individual staff work, this individual will collaborate with battery validation, module, software, purchasing, and customer facing teams to satisfy product objectives. 


Job Duties:

Low voltage electrical system design ownership for current and new battery system applications within New Technology Introduction (NTI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.

Develop schematics and wiring harness design in PTC Creo

Thorough supplier collaboration through the APQP process.

Perform/coordinate electrical component and system analysis to ensure robust system designs that satisfy technical requirements. 

Contribute to the development of battery system Design FMEAs

Build relationships to leverage business unit and corporate battery and electrical system expertise

Stay abreast of battery system industry product trends

Basic Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum

3-5 years of relevant engineering experience

Experience in harness schematic and harness design.

Basic understanding of powertrain control system design and function

Excellent analytical skills and understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications.

Self-starter with strong technical skills

Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well in other units, customers, and suppliers

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

Master’s degree (or international equivalent) in an accredited Engineering curriculum

Project experience in NTI (New Technology Introduction), NPI (New Product Introduction), or CPI (Current Product Improvement)

Experience in powertrain control systems

Experience in Battery Systems or other electric drivetrain components such as motors, powered electronics, etc.

Knowledge of drivetrain systems for a range of architectures (hybrid, BEV, etc.)

Up to 10% Travel.
