Principle Accountabilities

Deliver new technology developments in glass container manufacturing lines to achieve maximum O-I benefit at an accelerated rate.
Lead and collaborate on an internal cross functional team with Safety, Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations representatives with varying responsibilities.
Work collaboratively with third parties to engineer, fabricate, and install new equipment technology
Drive installation, start-up, and qualification of new equipment in a manufacturing setting.
Collaborate with regional engineering teams and in-plant networks.
Evaluate existing and new disruptive technology on the market.
Identify project needs for development relative to safety and manufacturing.

SCOPE AND IMPACT

The R&D Equipment Development Engineer , in this role is the subject matter lead that constantly drives  safe, reliable, and high performing new equipment design for a high volume glass manufacturing process.  As such, a successful candidate in this position is expected to:
Serve as a technical leader facilitating a cross function and collaborative working team environment.
Make decisions on equipment specifications, designs and implementation.
Provide plants and engineering with informed recommendations on the proper use and operation of new equipment.
Represent the company in discussions or negotiations with suppliers, in partnership with procurement
Communicate operational realities to management and provide direction on opportunities for investment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position will report to the Technology Advancement Leader in Global Technology Development.  This position will have no direct reports.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

Bachelors in mechanical, electrical, industrial or chemical engineering, or similar field
5+ years’ full time work experience in equipment design  for a manufacturing setting
First hand experience in manufacturing plants relative to equipment installation and start-up.
English language – fluent
MS Office – advanced

Preferred

7+ years’ full time work experience in equipment design for a manufacturing setting
Experience in glass container industry equipment design.
An understanding of general industrial manufacturing success metrics relative to quality, production throughput, and equipment mean time to failure
Spanish language proficiency desired.
