Special Processes are highly technical manufacturing processes that require in-depth expertise in material science, chemistry, metrology, process control and analytical / testing methods.

Supplier Engineer, Welding
Overview
Develops and deploys welding solutions and supplier qualifications across the fabrication supply base through collaboration, audits, evaluations, optimizing operations, ensuring efficiency and quality methods.
Communicates effectively and partners with internal stakeholders. May lead project teams, achieve business objectives and meets project milestones.
Key Responsibilities
Review and approve supplier welding procedures for Applied Materials products and applications
Helps to establish best-known practices to establish and improve welding processes in the fabrication supply base
Leads quality problem resolutions and incident management, drive root cause and corrective actions at suppliers
Supports supplier technical audit process and evaluates supplier performance and capability. Supports supplier selection to develop a supply base that provides a competitive advantage in quality, value/cost, delivery and technology
Supports new product development/introduction by reviewing process specifications, engineering drawing, and first article inspections to ensure integrity and clarity. Develops supplier capability to meet these requirements
Provides training and mentoring to internal teams on fabrication processes and the supplier audit/evaluation process
Functional Knowledge
Ability to audit welding procedures for code compliance and evaluate their functionality and effectiveness for the application
Substantial experience in aluminum, stainless, and carbon steel welding with some knowledge in machining and fabrication. Knowledge of AWS codes and standards is required.
Knowledgeable in fabrication methods used to meet cleanliness requirements for the semiconductor tool industry (Recommended)
Willingness to develop technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: metal finishing (e. g. plating, anodization, ENP), precision cleaning or chemical analysis methods.

Experience and Education
7+ years of experience in welding processes (GTAW, GMAW, EBW, LAW, etc.) and thermal cutting processes required.
Experience with manual, semi-automated, and automated welding processes and systems.
Must possess a strong knowledge of metallurgy of steels, testing of materials, and heat treatments.
Certified Welding Inspector (AWS D1. 1 or ASME B31. 3) preferred.
One or more of the following certifications:
CWI (Certified Welding Inspector)
CWS (Certified Welding Supervisor)
CWE (Certified Welding Educator)
ASNT ACCP Level I, II, or III
CWEng (Certified Welding Engineer)
Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree in welding, mechanical, industrial, manufacturing engineering or equivalent education and working experience related discipline
