Job Description

– An experienced attorney who is skilled and knowledgeable in his, her, or their area of practice.  A Counsel typically will have primary or shared responsibility for a portfolio of matters involving the Company, including potential disputes and actual disputes that may or may not involve filed litigations, arbitrations, or administrative proceedings.  

Counsels’ work involves:

Advising internal clients across different lines of business on managing potential and actual legal disputes
Hiring and managing outside counsel relationships
Authoring and executing negotiation and litigation strategy and tactics, with some oversight from more senior attorneys
Liaising with Finance, Risk, and other Corporate Services partners where relevant to dispute management and reporting
Reporting on litigation developments to internal business and senior legal personnel
Contributing to and/or leading Litigation Group, Legal Department, and Company-wide projects relating to regulatory and administrative obligations
Performing pro bono work through approved organizations

Preferred Qualifications

 – JD and 6+ years practicing law at a sophisticated level, preferably with banking and financial products/services litigation experience.  Candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills, job history, and academic credentials.  Must be a member of the New York State Bar or be registered with New York’s Appellate Division as in-house counsel.
