About the role:

The Asset Servicing & Digital (ASD) Risk Management team is part of the second line of defense at BNY Mellon and is responsible for providing holistic, independent oversight and challenge to the ASD business globally across all risk disciplines. We partner with specialist functions across Risk and Compliance, such as the Technology, Operational, Third Party and Enterprise Risk functions to manage the full spectrum of risks. The team is aligned to product heads within the business, enabling end-to-end accountability for the risk profile of the product.

In this newly-created role, the Business Risk Manager will play a lead role in driving the transformation of the Business Risk function and supporting the Asset Servicing and Digital business to achieve their strategic objectives. As a senior member of the team, the person will support the Business Chief Risk Officer and have the ability to deputize where needed at the executive level. This is a hands-on, commercially focused risk management role working directly with the business on client engagement, strategy, product development and digitization.

General Responsibilities:

The Risk Manager will be responsible for:

Providing independent oversight and challenge of the risk environment of the Asset Servicing and Digital business
Acting as a delegate for the Business Chief Risk Officer in decision making forums such as new business acceptance, product governance and strategic risk reviews
Alongside the Business Chief Risk Officer, driving the strategic agenda and transformation of the ASD Risk team, embedding best practice and developing the global team
Developing a holistic view of the risk profile of the business, bringing together financial and non-financial risks and proactively driving the management of these risks
Partnering with colleagues across the risk disciplines to draw together themes, particularly within the Enterprise, Operational, Technology, Third Party and Resiliency Risk functions, and extending to Model Risk, Credit Risk and other financial risks where relevant.
Collaborating with colleagues across Risk Management to bring together the view of risk for ASD across the front office, Operations and Technology functions
Collaborating with the 1LOD on new business, product development, strategic change, M&A activity and digitization initiatives
Leading for ASD Risk Management on strategic initiatives, including executive engagement and reporting, representation on steering committees
Driving a culture of intelligent risk taking and risk ownership in the first line
Supporting the Business Chief Risk Officer in regulator engagement globally

Qualifications:

Bachelor s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
15+ years of total work experience, with 5-7 years of management experience, preferred.
10+ years’ experience in risk-management based roles in complex, enterprise environments
Considerable risk management experience in financial services; with custody / securities servicing / fund services experience preferred   
Track record of building relationships and strong partnerships with key partners, especially client-facing teams and executive management  
Excellent communicator, with experience of executive and board-level communications
Non-financial or enterprise risk management experience essential; credit or other financial risk management experience an advantage
Experience of understanding complex contractual arrangements and the legal risk impacts is desirable
Ability to manage risk across front office, operations and technology functions is key
Experience of managing risk within a complex global regulatory environment, and direct regulator engagement desirable
Experience of leading global teams a plus
