Primary Purpose:

 

A key member of Sempra's Human Resources and D&I teams, the Employee Communications and HR Project Advisor will work closely with Sempra's Human Resources Directors, D&I and the Corporate Strategic Communications Team to create communications focused on HR and D&I initiatives, projects and milestones, with a focus on linking communications to the company values. This position will also be responsible for creating, updating, and improving various HR and D&I communications sites (i.e., SharePoint) and will support HR and D&I change management initiatives by providing strategic communications plans, content, and adoption efforts for large-scale HR projects and initiatives. Special projects within HR and D&I will also be a part of this scope of responsibilities. The Employee Communications and HR Advisor will drive communications for cross-functional efforts in support of Sempra's people strategy and apply a deep internal communications and HR expertise to drive integrated colleague communications, from strategy to execution. This position will be responsible for independently developing, planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating strategic and tactical communications that align with the strategic goals and milestones of Sempra's HR function. Communications will include, but are not limited to, executive emails, email campaigns, intranet articles and companywide events.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Employee and D&I Communications:

Partner with the Strategic Communications team to develop and implement wide-ranging communication strategies, integrated tactical communication plans and compelling messages for major programs/initiatives that drive key elements of HR and D&I’s strategy, including but not limited to performance development, total rewards, health and welfare, talent development, benefits, work/life effectiveness, and employee engagement and retention.
Partner with and provide strategic advice and counsel to HR Directors, D&I and teams to help them use proactive communication plans, change management strategies and effective messaging to ensure a constant flow of HR and D&I related information to internal audiences.
Draft and send executive and other internal emails; draft and publish intranet articles on HR/D&I topics; manage internal events for HR and D&I teams.
Measure communication effectiveness using digital metrics and analytics and use that date to inform and develop your communication strategy and plans.
Learn Sempra’s brand strategy and ensure all HR and D&I communications, materials, and projects include proper brand guidelines.
Help build and execute integrated communications/strategy and plan on Sempra’s D&I efforts.

Change Management:

Support the delivery of all change management and communications activities, including communication plans, communications content, and adoption efforts for large-scale HR and D&I projects and initiatives, helping inform the direction of the Project Management Resource team’s strategy and activities.
Partner with and provide strategic advice and counsel to HR and D&I leaders and teams to help them use proactive communication plans, change management strategies and effective messaging to ensure a constant flow of HR and D&I related information to internal audiences.

Technology Support:

Ensure all HR and D&I SharePoint sites include meaningful content and are engaging and informative.
Update SharePoint sites as programs and events are rolled out/changed.
Manage virtual town halls and other D&I events.
Send out mass emails using internal communications tool.

Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Business, Human Resources or related field required.

Experience:

7+ years experience in creating communications strategies, preferably employee focused.
5+ years change management experience.
3+ years experience working within a large organization preferred.
Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.

Skills and Abilities:

Exceptional verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to develop and communicate strategic objectives and maintain alignment with the business strategy.
Experience in writing strong, succinct copy that follows AP style.
Experience designing, developing, and editing SharePoint sites.
Strategic thinker with the ability to translate business objectives into integrated communications strategies and tactics that drive business performance and internal culture.
Ability to quickly learn Sempra’s branding and messaging strategy. Ability to create materials and content that properly reflects the brand and desired message.
Experience with change management and communicating key initiatives across multiple audiences.
Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects with various stakeholders.
High degree of flexibility, with the ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously.
Demonstrated courage and ability to appropriately push back as needed in the company’s best interest.
