Dow Jones - the Wall Street Journal team - is looking for a Senior Engineer to join a new team building out our experimentation capabilities across WSJ.com and Barrons.com. With an emphasis on performance and repeatability, your role will be to help implement the best software strategies for the Optimization team to launch a/b & multivariate experiments across our platforms. The ultimate goal is to create a long-term, sustainable suite of tools for conducting experiments. It will require working closely with Optimization managers, product stakeholders, and engineering teams to develop, launch, and wrap up experiments. You will be a technical voice for the team and help us establish well documented and repeatable processes within Dow Jones, while helping to lead a small team of junior engineers.

You will:

Design, develop and test features and functionality for Dow Jones web properties like WSJ.com and Barrons.com.

Work closely with a team of engineers, product managers, and designers to solve problems for other engineers and our readers.

Collaborate with technology leaders to set technical direction for our platforms as we build experimentation capabilities

Play an active role in setting team priorities and ensuring their success

Empower engineers across the organization to build their own experiments using the platforms and best practices your team designs

You are:

An experienced software engineer with 3-5 years of experience in modern web development using HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript

Fluent in many web-based technologies such as Node.js, React, JSON and NoSQL. Knowledge of Docker, AWS, Webpack and advanced CSS (Grid, Flexbox) is even better!

Analytical and detail-oriented, able to decompose and estimate effort for various technical solutions

Passionate about the power of experimentation and how it can lead to better decisions.

Well-versed in A/B and Multivariate testing methodologies

A clear communicator and collaborator, enjoying the opportunity to work across departments

Familiar with current best-practices regarding web performance and measuring page speed at scale
