What you will do
The position serves as a key leader in the business with responsibility for environmental, health and safety (EH&S) strategies, policies, standards, compliance, and management initiatives. This leader owns and is accountable for Environmental, Health, & Safety program execution across all of JCI's Federal Business.

How you will do it

• Develops and executes strategy for Environmental Health and Safety globally for all Federal operations & activities conducted by JCFS, JCI and our business partners with JCI enterprise EH&S efforts.
• Designs and implements policies, processes, and programs in support of the functional and business strategy, as well as applicable governmental regulations.
• Leads a team of dedicated EHS professionals, responsible for talent development and mentoring related to technical expertise, client interactions, and management skills. 
• Fully understands the business strategies in order to conceptualize, recommend and implement business processes that ensure alignment with the EHS strategy.
• Provides expert advice to leadership team on EHS issues related to the Federal Systems business and regularly reports on EHS and sustainability performance. 
• Conducts global audits/risk assessments/accident investigations which have major implications for the Federal Business. Ensures all incidents are properly reported, investigated and corrective actions developed and implemented
• Provides applicable EHS interface to customer specific requirement in order to support JCI Federal business across North America, and global regions, including OCONUS. 
• Direct interface with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Safety professionals serving our contracts and contract vehicles – authorized to resolve issues as identified; fosters relationships with key customer’s representatives on Environment, Safety & Health
• Along with Legal team, represents JCI Federal on all Workers Compensation (WC), OSHA and EPA regulatory and litigation issues. 
• Drives management & new process development for USACE-Facing Safety Program including initial data collection, AAPP, APP submittals, SSHO Indoctrination, Audits, Accident Investigations & Organizational Oversight.
• Developed startup kits & mentoring for subcontractors SSHO’s & National Programs.
• Develop and maintain a network of safety professionals that enables staffing and onsite supervision across contracts received at OCONUS locations (Outside Continental United States) – specifically in Korea and Japan.
• In conjunction with the fleet organization, leads the driver safety improvement efforts to enable Federal Systems business alignment to JCI program requirements.

What we look for
Required:
• 15 or more years experience working with and leading Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) programs, with at least 5 years in a management position. Direct experience with federal contracting preferred. 
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge designing and implementing safety and environmental programs, preferably with federal contracts
• The ability to obtain and maintain required Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  (This involves a background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit check.)
• In order to meet the increasing demands of our customers and comply with the Federal orders, where legally permissible, we will require all new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment and submit proof in our Johnson Controls Vaccination Tracker upon hire, unless candidate has a valid medical condition or sincerely held religious belief precluding he/she from receiving the vaccine.

 Preferred:

• Bachelor's Degree in an Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) related field or equivalent; a Master's Degree strongly preferred
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of federal safety standards (EM 385-1-1, NAVFAC, etc)
• Experience supporting military construction (MILCON) projects
• Experience supporting OCONUS (Outside Continental United States) based safety teams and/or programs
• Possess at least one of the following Safety-related Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP); Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH); Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
