Job Description

Essential Job Functions:

Hardware Asset Management

Document computer room hardware units received at dock (assign/attach Asset Tag and match to Purchase Order/SMI number).
Ensure all data center equipment across the enterprise is installed in accordance with Data Center Operations Standards and data/technology center space usage master plan.                                                     
Update Aperture database and inventory spreadsheet with equipment installation/relocation/removed in the Fishers Data Center.
Maintain accurate asset list, floor space and rack drawings of each Navient data and technology center.
Maintain inventory of hardware stored at the warehouse.
Update monthly spreadsheet from Purchasing with information on equipment received.
Produce Aperture ad-hoc reports as requested by management.

Computer Room Power Facilitation                                                        ??                                                                                             

Coordinate the use of power when equipment is installed/relocated/removed (ensure power is available from two Power Distribution Units or PDUs).
Work with Facility Services to have additional power whips installed or removed.
Maintain PDU panel/breaker assignment spreadsheets and ensure list is placed in PDUs.
Maintain listing of power receptacles for large equipment.
Plan power usage from budgeted capital purchase items.
Monitor scheduling and running of quarterly diesel backup generator test.
Monitor scheduling and running of semi-annual UPS preventative maintenance.
Assist in the coordinating of any replacement of air conditioners and PDUs with Facility Services.

Computer Room Environment Monitoring                                                                                                                                          

Perform walk-through of Fishers Data Center several times a week to visually monitor each air conditioner, PDU, static switch, UPS, and general condition of the Data Center.
Monitor power usage by PDUs and UPS systems.
Ensure remote data and technology centers environmental are monitored on a periodic basis.
Maintain SiteScan monitoring software.

Reporting

Monthly summaries of hardware errors (mainframe disk, storage, printers, and other).
Equipment inventory.
Rack temperature monitoring.

Project Management

Plan and coordinate projects as assigned, typically hardware installation, upgrades, relocations and removal.
Prepare assigned tasks when participating in other projects, such as the semi-annual Disaster Recovery tests.

Audit    

Attend appropriate audit meetings and respond to auditors in a timely manner with requested information.
Ensure all Data Center Environmental and Facilities procedures and practices are followed and are in compliance with audit standards.                                                                                                             
Maintain hardware vendor’s list with security access to the Data Center and ensure all authorization forms are current.

Other Duties

Give Fishers Data Center tours when requested.
Enter Change Orders for changes impacting the Data Center (initiated from DCO or Facility Services).
Attend Weekly Change meetings, when DCO changes must be presented.
Work with Facility Services on semi-annual DCO floor cleanings
Maintain list of PCs charged to DCO
Maintain list of phone numbers charged to DCO and verify quarterly.
Perform other duties as assigned by Disaster Recovery Architect and/or Director of Computer Operations.

Lifting and Moving

Unpack, lift and asset tag servers and other large pieces of equipment exceeding ninety pounds in weight
Place in Crusher and crush obsolete cabinets, panels, and other moderately heavy equipment
Must lift raised-floor panels
Must work pallet jack to move very heavy equipment to Computer Room

Access Limitations                                                                                                                    ___

Crawl under 18-inch floor to locate power outlets
Reach up to heights of five feet or more to activate displays on UPS and PDUs

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Technology or a related field OR additional equivalent experience above the required minimum may substitute.
3+ years’ experience in Technical Support or Computer Operations working in a large multi-processor, multi-platform-computing environment.  Shop must have experience with mainframes and large server farm interacting with the mainframe operating in a 24x7 environment.
1+ years project management experience.  Skills should involve project development and planning, delegation of responsibilities, with the ability to set and meet target dates.  Need excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks with a high degree of accuracy.

Ability to perform independent research to acquire knowledge and discover solutions.

Professional when responding to support staff, vendors, clients, system users, or management questions/requests
Good working knowledge of Windows and PC file structure.
PC experience (Word, Excel, and GroupWise-email).
Ability to work weekends and after hours as part of normal 24/7 operation schedule. Occasional holiday and overtime work as required.
