The ideal candidate is the conduit of information to corporate planning personnel and systems for the planning processes, as well as integration of the operating plan into the local planning and scheduling systems. The planning manager is responsible for the development of monthly and annual operating plans, management of inventory, and reporting of actuals against the plan. The operating plan includes the monthly production plan, the shipping and booking plan and the WIP/finished inventory plan necessary to support Commercial objectives. The ideal candidate is actively involved in developing members of the planning staff. This position will reside at our Burns Harbor facility in Burns Harbor, Indiana.
Responsibilities:
Works closely with Operating, Accounting, and Commercial Management while developing the plan, to ensure accurate inputs to the planning process, as well as outputs that align with the overall business strategy and support the various business functions.
Responsible for updating the manufacturing model used for the monthly operating plan with new flows as business conditions change.
Responsible for coordinating the flow of material to the Double G plant
Oversee the development and generation of daily and weekly material flow plans utilizing the M-Planner technology, that align with the latest monthly operating plan
Responsible for weekly and daily reporting of progress against the monthly operating plan throughout the facility and to corporate areas.
Responsible for the timely application and movement of unapplied coils
Responsible for the timely movement of unapplied slabs
Interfaces with any other disciplines, and levels of local and corporate management as necessary for the successful execution as well as communication of issues for the plant.
Develops new reporting, as necessary, to support the scheduling and planning teams.
Identify, lead, and support continuous improvement activities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Manager.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business related field.
5+ years of relevant heavy industry/manufacturing experience
Exceptional Excel skills (including pivot tables, linking of data/files, diagnosis of V-lookups, etc.)
Strong data acquisition skills
Ability to work with different personalities across functions and management levels
Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management/Operations
7+ years of relevant steel industry experience
5 years managing experience
Ability to use Microsoft Access or SQL programming to acquire data needed in problem solving.
