General Summary:

Individuals in the Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Enterprise Monitoring position are responsible for designing system and infrastructure monitoring solutions spanning the whole range of hardware and software technologies in their designated field, using approved system engineering practices. They will develop and maintain the high-level design plan for the overall logical and technical IT solution architecture. They will provide technical leadership and consulting across the organization, from strategic decision making to project level planning. They will gain organizational commitment for all high-level Infrastructure plans and initiate and participate in projects to evaluate technologies and methods for implementing these plans. This role may mentor Associate IE, IE I and/or IE II employees.

They will work closely with decision makers throughout the organization to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective information processing and communication technologies. They will benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement of the relevant IT Infrastructure and IT systems. They will apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help validate, verify, communicate, and resolve complex systems/software/networking/infrastructure applications and infrastructure issues.

They are responsible for planning, designing and analyzing the organization’s operating system(s), storage management, agents/instrumentation, systems management, security, network, web administration, database management, automation, and application technical stacks. Additionally, this position may require working knowledge of multiple computing/networking platforms (including physical, virtual, and cloud,) while ensuring high levels of data quality and availability. They are also responsible for capacity planning, backup and restore process design, performance analysis, and developing data disaster recovery plans.

Job Specifications

Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or the equivalent unique education, specialized experience, skills, knowledge or training
Nagios experience is required
Has 5+ years of related work experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience with on-premises infrastructure and applications, cloud hosted Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service capabilities including virtual networks, virtual machines and data services.
Minimum of 3 years of experience on administration of Experience Monitoring/ Full Stack monitoring tools and on-boarding complex applications to enterprise Monitoring tools
Enterprise administration experience with many of the following APM/Monitoring tools: DynaTrace, AWS CloudWatch, Splunk Cloud, Nagios, SolarWinds, ServiceNow Event Management, SCOM or similar tools
Job and/or industry related professional certifications are preferred
Has extensive experience with developing strategic plans
Hands-on experience with business requirements gathering/analysis
Has proven experience in monitoring design and development
Strong understanding of information processing principles and practices
Has advanced technical knowledge of current systems and cloud infrastructure software, protocols, and standards
Has advanced technical knowledge of current public Cloud infrastructures (Azure, AWS, GCP.)
Excellent ability to prioritize and divide time between multiple projects
Hands-on experience with scripting languages and development tools
Demonstrates proven project planning and management experience
Has good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
Has exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities
Possesses exceptional understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
Has superior written and oral communication skills
Excellent technical architecture and technical support documentation skills

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Designs, builds and deploys solutions across the relevant infrastructure technologies.
Designs automation of monitoring as a service and capabilities.
Leads technical deployments that involve multiple IT teams and stakeholders.
Provides technical direction to meet the internal needs.
Develops and enhances the orchestration and automation tools.
Designs highly scalable and solutions to support the company’s future growth.
Provides innovative suggestions for complex implementation solutions.
Creates documentation and implementation plans to allow support teams to build and manage the relevant environment.
Stays abreast of current technologies and makes recommendations based on knowledge and research.
Maintains in-depth knowledge of company’s strategic business plans.
Collaborates with end users and senior management to define business requirements for complex systems development and gain buy-in for all on premise/cloud monitoring solutions.
Provides architectural consulting expertise, direction, and assistance to IT and business partners.
Documents and develops in-depth knowledge of company’s existing IT architecture/on premise/cloud infrastructure and technology portfolio.
Develops and manages a monitoring capacity plan.
Develops, documents, communicates, and enforces a technology standards policy.
Conducts research on emerging technologies in support of infrastructure development efforts and recommends technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and monitoring flexibility.
Develops, documents, recommends, and communicates plans for investing in monitoring solutions, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities.
