Job Description

Service/Productivity/Professional

Performs clinical/anatomic pathology procedures by established protocols in order to provide accurate diagnosis data.  Samples are accurately identified and labeled.  Results are evaluated and questionable results are repeated and/or investigated.  May rotate to various lab sections and performs clinical duties in a competent manner according to established procedures.
Routinely completes assigned work on time.  Completes STAT requests within defined turnaround times.  Critical values and issues are called to the appropriate healthcare provider.
Provides quality Customer Service in a timely and courteous manner.
Check inventory and rotates supplies; restocks supplies as necessary.
Recognizes limitations/resourcefulness of their competency within the realm of the job description.
Ensures section procedures are current, reviewed and approved at least annually by the Laboratory Medical Director.
Effectively interacts with laboratory personnel and other section supervisors from all departments to resolve routine issues.
Demonstrates appropriate use of the LIS system to complete assigned tasks.
Maintains a safe work environment in the laboratory by meeting all regulatory standards and following Universal Precaution.
Presents to the department prepared to work in a timely fashion according to scheduled hours.
Performs additional tasks/assignments/projects to benefit the organization.
Responsible for hiring/termination process for personnel.
Implements instrument maintenance procedures, reviews instrument maintenance records per protocol and assists in the evaluation of new instruments.
Ensures quality of laboratory testing by reviewing proficiency reports and recommending and implementing corrective action in collaboration with the Laboratory Medical Director.
Responsible for personnel competency and performance review.  Responsible for personnel performance, performance improvement plans and disciplinary action.
Provides orientation and education to laboratory personnel.
Performs instrument analysis and investigates new volume opportunities and new testing methodologies.
Once initially deemed competent and remains competent via competency assessment, supervision and/or supervisory review is not required for specimen processing, test performance or results reporting.
Supervisors the day to day workflow and employees.
Work as a collaborative member of the Supervisors team.

Assures quality control

Prepares standard solutions and reagents and maintains Laboratory equipment in good working order.
Performs, interprets and documents quality control procedures per established standards to ensure the accuracy of the laboratory data.  Updates and reviews quality control reports, i.e. LJ charts, looking for trends, outliers and documentation of appropriate remedial action.
Complies with all safety and related rules/regulations and adheres to all proficiency testing requirements per CMS and CAP.
Completes all appropriate CEUs.

Performs related duties

Assumes responsibility for section activities.
Performs additional related duties as assigned.
Troubleshoots technical problems involving chemicals and equipment.
Responsible to act as the liaison for the department section assigned for all regulatory inspections
Responsible to assist the administrative director with budgeting process annually.
