The following are job duties expected of the Sr. Accountant in the Carbon Accounting group:
Assist in development, implementation and auditing of carbon accounting policies and applicable international, national, federal, regional and state carbon accounting laws, regulations and standards and applicable industry, contractual or voluntary protocols.
Perform allocation of GHG emissions, including but not limited to carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, CO2-equivalent, by analyzing production data, meters and air quality reports.
Reconcile GHG emissions and associated offsets or credits, including those under Internal Revenue Code Section 45Q, the California Low Carbon Fuel Standard, Emission Reduction Credits for various compounds, and Renewable Energy Credits, among others.
Work with Oxy Low Carbon Ventures and Operations to ensure completeness and accuracy of GHG offsets and credits in internal systems, external verification and transactions.
Analyze inventory and explain variances in emissions, offsets and credits
Provide support and assistance to the settlements team and operations to research and resolve prior period discrepancies.
Reconcile offsets and credits with our technical accounting and revenue accounting groups and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Collaborate with project teams, product control, revenue accounting and Operations to improve processes and provide reliable analysis.
Reconciliation of general ledger accounts for inventory and related costs in conjunction with technical accounting.
Review and record monthly journal entries to the general ledger for purchases, sales and fees associated with offsets or credits.
Gather supporting documents and provide explanations for internal and external verification and audit requests.
Document and update desk procedures for assigned tasks.
Bachelor’s or higher degree in accounting or finance, business or engineering.
Minimum of 5 years related work experience in the energy industry.
Thorough knowledge of GHG emission credits, offsets and trading programs, including at the California Air Resources Board.
Proficiency with accounting systems including with SAP and Allegro
Interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to relate effectively across all levels of the organization and with business partners.
Strong ability in managing and processing large quantities of data
Ability to communicate in a professional manner and establish effective working relationships with internal operations and external customers

Overtime will be required during critical times.
Registration as a Certified Public Accountant.
Experience in the upstream and midstream oil and natural gas industry sectors.
