Overview

Great American's Strategic Comp division is currently seeking a Workers' Compensation Claims Assistant to support our growing Claims Operations department. This is a full-time work from home opportunity.

Responsibilities

Here’s what you would be doing if hired for the Worker's Compensation Claims Assistant role: 

Provide support to a team of 3 to 5 California workers' compensation claims adjusters
Demonstrate working knowledge of the claims operation and learn to resolve routine incoming operations partners’ requests; refer all non-routine/more complex issues to more experienced staff
Actively seek information to understand operations partners’ circumstances, problems, expectations and needs, for the purpose of resolving inquiries/issues
Share and/or convey information to business partners, regarding their claims; maintain a professional demeanor in all situations
Interact with business partners to share and/or convey information in response to issues and inquiries; respond to general claims information requests and complaints received via telephone, email, or voicemail
Provide assistance to Claims department in areas requiring beginner to intermediate skills or knowledge.
Perform claims operations and payment functions on claims:

Perform electronic indexing, coverage verification, claims transactions, recoveries, and complete drafts and forms
Complete claims setup and entry, and assign claims numbers
Compose, prepare, review, and respond to correspondence; answer and respond to inquiries and gather information
Perform general processing; enter information into company systems and utilize the company systems to identify the appropriate recipient of correspondence within or outside the company
Prepare, order, and maintain records, reports, registers, and schedules
Maintain/purge documents according to record retention guidelines and distribute files/file systems
May perform systems functions, including determining errors/corrections on claims system(s)
May coordinate/maintain contractor system, assigned manuals, repetitive payment schedule and bulk billing system
May receive/verify information on loss reports and expense and/or medical bills

Comply with company and regulatory guidelines
Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma
A minimum of 2 years of recent experience assisting with California workers' compensation claims.  Experience should include, but not be limited to the following:

Experience supporting a team of claims adjusters
Experience with RFA’s
Experience with Objections
Experience with Benefit Letters
Experience with Denials

Preferred Skills and Location

Ability to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently is a plus
Location in Pacific Time Zone is strongly preferred
