This position is part of the Global Quality group at O-I. This position will primarily support O-Is light weighting efforts by serving as a technical expert on glass container failure and understanding customer requirements. This individual will work with customers to understand forces and stress containers undergo on their filling lines and mechanisms of ware breakage. A key responsibility will be to analysis this data and provide it to the light weighting team to drive decisions about the technical direction of the project. They will design appropriate tests that best replicate container experiences on a filling line to evaluate lightweight containers produced by the project. The container performance and quality expert, using a combination of statistical and failure analysis, will assess whether light weighted containers are fit for use. Additionally, this position will support Global Quality product safety initiatives.
The Global Safety Engineer should have:
* Bachelors in mechanical engineering, materials science, or similar field
* 3+ years full time work experience in failure and/or strength analysis in a manufacturing environment, preferably on glass or ceramic materials
* Experience in understanding Food & Beverage Industry filling line
* Experience with statistical analysis software and methods
* English language fluent
* MS Office advanced
You will:
* Communicate with key O-I customers and acquire information on stresses and failure mechanisms containers undergo on their filling lines
* Acquire data to identify causes and locations of low-end stress failures of glass containers
* Present compelling information to the light weighting team on container failure that will influence the direction of technical work to address specific failure modes
* Utilizing information gained on container stresses in a filling line, design testing methods to best evaluate light weighted container performance
* Measure the strength performance of light weighted glass performance and perform statistical and failure analysis of tested articles
* Report out on container strength testing results and make recommendations on improvement needs
