Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for the resolution of high complexity and high exposure claims. The position will have increased responsibility for decision making within their authority and work with minimal oversight. This role will be for the Construction group which handles primarily construction defect and construction liability claims with an emphasis on claims arising in the southeastern region .

* Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims
* Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions
* Conducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of damages
* Directs and monitors assignments to experts and outside counsel
* Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine the extent of insured's exposure
* Sets reserves within authority or makes claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to manager
* Negotiates and settles claims either directly or indirectly
* Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information
* Adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal Claims Quality Performance Objectives
* Participates in special projects or assists other team members as requested
* Travel to mediations, trials, and conferences as required

Education

* Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
* JD , advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus

Certification

* Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license.
* Successful achievement of industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) or
* Participation in industry training opportunities (CLM Claim College, Munich Re Training, FDCC, etc.)

Work Experience

* Minimum of 5 years of claims handling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Successful completion of 3 years as a Claims Examiner
* Experience handling claims in Texas

* Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)

Please note: Markel has a phased approach for re-entry into our buildings that is designed to balance the ongoing health, safety, and well-being of our employees with operational considerations and regulatory/ governmental requirements and recommendations. Remote working is still the preferred method of working for most positions at this time. Effective 6/1/21 we will implement a return to work strategy that allows for three days in the office every other week. We will update with further developments.
