Job Description
AK Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Quality Metallurgist at our Middletown facility. The Quality Metallurgist will provide engineering expertise in evaluating and identifying causes of quality problems within a high volume steel melting/casting operation, rolling or coating line. Assist operations personnel in evaluating and modifying standard operating practices in relation to quality problems. Will monitor downstream quality of a particular operation and advise plant management regarding overall quality performance.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Will provide engineering expertise in evaluating and identifying causes of quality problems within a high volume steel melting/casting operation, rolling or coating line.
* Will evaluate data, conduct trials and recommend actions which eliminate causes of product non-conformance.
* Will assist operations management in evaluating and modifying standard operating practices in relation to improved yield and product quality.
* Position will involve responsibility for managing either product or process quality for an assigned product line or operating area.
* Will advise plant management regarding overall quality performance.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* A Bachelors degree in Metallurgical, Materials, Ceramic, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is required.
* Ideal candidates will have 2 to 8 years of experience dealing with manufacturing processes.
* Experience with melting or continuous casting is a plus.
* Strong problem solving and data analysis skills.
* Interpersonal skills and the ability to operate effectively within a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
