Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr. Staff (Lead) Engineer Systems to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.

The Sr. Staff (Lead) Engineer Systems will support Global Hawk Enterprise, and will lead and execute System Safety Engineering and Management activities. Position requires deep understanding of advanced safety analysis methods and the ability to continue moving GH forward to innovative industry standards.

The right candidate will provide upfront system analysis required to allocate effective safe architectures, identify erroneous mixing of safety amp; non-safety functions, and apply new safe technologies in highly sophisticated software and hardware systems.

This role will produce quantitative safety evidence (artifacts) through analysis to successfully influence design and architecture to meet current and future Airworthiness, Safety, and regulatory requirements both for USG and FMS customers. Clearly provide rationale for decisions made using robust analysis, and enable leadership to make informed decisions.

The role will manage numerous projects, reduce or control unplanned tasking, and lead a diverse team. The candidate must have an understanding of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and be able to interface with multiple EVMS leads to coordinate and execute the system safety tasking across many projects.

Other responsibilities will include conducting ad-hoc safety consulting for various projects and other programs, with potential opportunities to integrate Run-Time Assurance methods and the ASTM Standard (F3269-17) for safe integration of Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML).

The selected candidate will hellip;

* Model and implement the highest technical difficulty in system safety engineering
* Be a results-oriented driving force to shift the program away from outdated safety standards (MIL-STD-882C) to MIL-STD-882E (and potentially further down the road, the new draft of ldquo;882F rdquo; that incorporates AI/ML related guidance)
* Lead and coordinate a team of Safety Engineers across the GH, NATO, ROK, and Japan efforts
* Ensure safety products comply to Airworthiness standards, templates, and maintain strict configuration management
* Ensure Critical Safety Item (CSI) management is conducted and sustained
* Represent the program to the customer and conduct System Safety Group (SSGs) periodically
* Directly collaborate with GH Directors, PMs, and Chief Engineers, and successfully communicate safety analysis, safety risk management, and safety concerns
* Participation in Independent Review Teams (IRTs) as a System Safety representative
* Ability to identify FMS customer requirements (NATO, for example) and maintain airworthiness compliance via safety artifacts generation.

Must also demonstrate mentorship capability towards junior System Safety Engineers and provide continual learning to ensure growth in the field of safety.

Qualification

Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelor rsquo;s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field from an accredited university
* Minimum of 14+ Years of Experience with a Bachelors in STEM; 12+ Years with Masters; 9+ Years with PhD; with a minimum of 2+ years of demonstrated ability conducting complex safety analysis techniques of highly sophisticated systems
* High depth of knowledge of and experience with using System Safety Standards (MIL-STD-882E, SAE ARP4761, SAE ARP4754A, DO-178, or MIL-HDBK-516)
* Past/current active involvement with standards, presentations, publications, or patents in the System Safety or Airworthiness community
* Ability to acquire and maintain a DoD Secret or higher clearance and special program access

Preferred Qualifications:

* Previous experience briefing and interacting with senior customer officials and internal executive management
* Experience in documenting best practices and revising processes (command media) to institutionalize corrective actions and best methodologies
* Active DoD Top Secret clearance
* Extensive knowledge of System and Software Safety practices across civil and military applications. Active involvement in further development of industry standards, as well as implementation of leading standards into development products. Membership or participation in industry safety committees, such as G-48, or SAE S-18. Extensive experience and cognizance of aircraft design, control systems, and complex software systems.
