The Tactical Space Systems Division organization has an opening for a Production Engineer in Dulles, VA to support the Ammolite program. The majority of the program rsquo;s statement of work is to plan and execute assembly, integration, and test (AI amp;T) activities for many complex Space Vehicle rsquo;s (SV) at the Dulles, VA satellite manufacturing facility (SMF). Due to the high SV yield, the program will implement a production focused flow, to optimize schedule, cost, and run in a smooth logistical flow to meet customer requirements. The program contract runs in a firmed fixed price format, therefore gathering lessons learned and efficiencies from the first SV build to implement on later SV rsquo;s is key.
A successful candidate for this position will work use prior fixed-price production experience in the aerospace field to provide key technical direction, planning, and execution to the Ammolite program in Dulles VA, in the NSS business area within the Space Systems Division at NG Space. This Production Engineer role is responsible for understanding the baselined SV AI amp;T plan, and introduce novel methods to run the production flow, as well as constant assessment of running the production single line flow over the life of the program.
The responsibilities includes both individual-contributor and leadership roles, within a multi-disciplined engineering team. Successful candidate may also be called to support other activities within the program: systems analysis and trades, coordinating space segment engineering activities, engineering baseline management, interface management, requirements/V amp;V management, integration amp; test campaign and design integration support, subcontractor technical oversight, preparing/presenting SE material at all major reviews and PMRs and interfacing with the customer and SETAs on all space segment technical issues. The candidate is expected to be self-directed and a self-starter, using previous experience to lead design, analysis and execution efforts. Candidates must be able to recognize and mitigate space segment technical issues and risks while operating within budget, on schedule, and operating in a firm fixed price program. Candidate will be placed on an extremely fast paced program, work with multiple mission partners, and will be expected to lead a team to solve problems even with a changing baseline.
Responsibilities:
* Introduce novel methods to run the production flow, as well as constant assessment of running the production single line flow over the life of the program.
* Gathering lessons learned and efficiencies from the first SV build to implement on later SV rsquo;s
* Utilize fundamental systems engineering, electrical or mechanical principles to drive production and design innovations and changes that result in superior products
* Understanding firmed fixed price contract constructs and its implications
* Mechanical Manufacturing Processes; Developing work center efficiencies mapping to in include troubleshooting manufacturing production lines and identify root cause analysis manufacturing issues.
* Develops manufacturing engineering processes, manufacturing processes shall enable the manufacturing of current and future products that meet technical specifications, high quality standards, and relevant agency compliance requirements
* Define, implement and monitor process metrics associated with manufacturing work cell functionality.
* Identify and propose manufacturing improvement projects in collaboration with team members such as manufacturing process improvement, yield management, production rate improvement and work cell enhancements and procurement
* Ensure Manufacturing has the needed resources (resources Manufacturing needs as well as allocation of resources from Manufacturing) to execute the programs
* Managing and maintaining the day to day interfaces and communications between the assigned Program Management Office (PMO), Manufacturing, Test, Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP), Mission Assurance (MA), Supply Chain (SCM), Engineering, and Shipping.
* Troubleshoot and develop solutions to complex problems that the program may encounter.
* Identify systems and process goals to ensure that work cells and equipment meet operational performance and usage requirements. This would include identifying preventive maintenance activities to be included in the Manufacturing Preventive Maintenance Program
* Facilitating internal meetings in a way to support design, production, and problem resolutions.
