Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, and the Azure Synapse analytics service are world-class relational database systems widely used across the globe from small devices and servers to some of the largest cloud systems in the world. These systems underpin applications ranging from bank software/stock trading systems to analytics data warehouses storing hundreds of terabytes of data. These mission-critical systems require deep systems expertise to build and grow to satisfy the needs of our customers, from supporting thousands of users on a single machine to supporting thousands of cores participating in a single query. The SQL team gets to work on many challenging customer problems and opportunities every single day, and we are looking for candidates that want to come help us build the next generation of features for our customers.

This is an opportunity to work in a diverse and collaborative team environment on challenging technical problems that span the entire stack of database technology - programming languages, query processing/optimization, and distributed systems). We use the latest academic research to push the latest hardware to its limits and to deliver record-breaking query performance.

Software engineers in the SQL Query Processing team get to work on the latest technology in compute and storage, applying innovative algorithms to solve database problems at scale with great performance. We need collaborative team members who think big and want a challenge.

Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelor's/Master's with work or research experience in computer science or related field.
* 1-2 years programming experience in C++, C or Java (professional experience or school based knowledge)

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience with multi-threaded programming
* Strong technical background in algorithms (Big-O complexity analysis)
* Experience in building and shipping production grade software or services.
* Results-oriented with a passion for delighting customers with our work
* Passion for learning about new technologies and how they can help customers succeed.
* Ability to work collaboratively, solve programs in groups, and celebrate success as a team
* Understanding of databases and the SQL language
