The Azure Hardware Architecture team is seeking an experienced Principal Hardware Architect to lead the design, development and deployment of our next generation AI hardware and systems in large-scale datacenters. Our team operates at the intersection of AI algorithmic innovation, purpose-built AI hardware and systems, and software. We are a cross-discipline team of highly capable and motivated people with a collaborative and inclusive culture.
Responsibilities for this role include leading AI hardware architectural and microarchitectural pathfinding and requirements gathering with customers and users, architecting and designing novel processors, system-on-chips, accelerators, and datacenter systems.
* Be the trusted partner and technical leader in the areas of computer architecture, machine learning/AI accelerators, large-scale systems for AI, datacenters, and other related areas.
* Collaborate closely with other key software and hardware architects on architectural pathfinding, definition of system/hardware architectural specifications, and developing and overseeing the successful execution of multi-year roadmaps and engineering programs.
* Initiate, scope and undertake projects with multiple external partners and stakeholders.
* Drive principled, major technical decisions.
* Create and maintain best practices for high quality product engineering, development best practices and conduct architectural reviews.
* Possess keen awareness and ability to stay abreast of upcoming technical trends and internal roadmaps, including monitoring of latest AI research trends.
Required Qualifications:
* BS in computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent experience.
* 10+ years of experience in relevant engineering development and/or research.
Preferred Qualifications:
* 15+ years of experience in relevant engineering development and/or research.
* Proven track record in deploying technically innovative and working hardware designs with excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to understand and solve problems leveraging cross-stack optimizations spanning algorithms to silicon.
* Demonstrated fundamentals in ASIC and FPGA design and implementation (e.g., microarchitecture, design verification, physical design, etc).
* Ability to collaborate effectively in a large organization spanning multiple teams of hardware, software, and systems engineers and stakeholders.
* Strong communication skills and the desire to collaborate, motivate, and lead a team of highly capable engineers.
* Self-directed, ability to work with minimal supervision.
