AltspaceVR (https://Altvr.com) is the premier social and live events app, which brings together people from around the world in virtual reality and 3D. People use AltspaceVR to host and attend live comedy shows, tech talks, LGBTQ meetups, meditation classes, dance parties, conferences and more. Diplo, Reggie Watts, Pitbull, NBC, Bill Nye and many others have used AltspaceVR to host events. AltspaceVR is available in VR on Oculus Quest/Quest 2 and Rift/Rift-S, HTC Vive and Windows MR, and in 3D on Windows and Mac. The AltspaceVR team is part of the Mixed Reality group responsible for HoloLens 2, and at the forefront of AR and VR technology.

As an AltspaceVR services engineer, you'll be working closely together with a great team of designers, artists, engineers, and dreamers, and with a highly dedicated community, all working to bring the dream of social VR to life. You will be

* extending and maintaining our 2 main services - our restful user and world service/web server (using Ruby on Rails), and our synchronous multiplayer synchronization service (using Photon and C).
* working closely together with the design and client developer teams on implementing and improving features such as 10000+ user synchronization, friend graph, events management, moderation, and user-generated content management.
* managing our Azure-based backend, troubleshooting, fixing bugs, improving performance, and keeping the platform running.
* 3+ years of experience developing modern web applications using frameworks like Rails or developing multiplayer game servers.
* Experience with Ruby or C
* Experience with AWS or Microsoft Azure configuration and management
* Passion about continuous improvement in process and service
* Strong cross-discipline collaboration and communication skills
* Proven programming experience and debugging ability

There are a number of additional skills that are not required, but can be useful on this team, including experience with

* Looker
* TeamCity
* Background in game development, an understanding of game development best practice or a track record of delivering engaging user experiences
* Background in client server game engine networking (especially Photon)

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
