The Azure Next Cloud Systems Architecture (NCSA) team incubates and develops nascent concepts determining suitability for the Azure Cloud. NCSA is a small, multi-disciplinary team with responsibilities including concept generation, concept proposal, critical evaluations, prototype engineering and documentation support for executive reviews. As the concepts approach the point where they're ready to be made into Azure products, a handoff will be made to the larger development teams.
NCSA's hardware team is seeking a highly motivated Electrical & Signal Integrity Engineer for development of complex add-in cards, servers and infrastructure, concentrating mainly on advanced high-performance systems utilizing immersion and cold-plate technologies. The candidate will collaborate closely with Microsoft product groups, industry partners and researchers to develop systems concepts that will meet the requirements for Microsoft cloud services platforms at the lowest possible cost of ownership (TCO). The candidate will be responsible for ensuring new systems and solutions make the most of the latest in high-speed signaling technologies and operate with high quality.
The candidate must have expertise and a strong track record of success in systems architecture and design with demonstratable experience with EDA design tools. Responsibilities include working directly with engineers across the company and across the industry to develop requirements and specifications for server systems and develop the designs from concept to data center deployment. The candidate must be strong in communication skills to effectively deliver designs to management and direct the effort with design partners.
Roles and Responsibilities:
* Responsible for conceptual generation, simulation, design, and physical testing of prototype systems
* Collaborate with internal and external partners to define and specify high-performance hyperscale systems requirements
* Responsible for directing the development and reviewing the electrical design efforts of partners, ODMs and OEMs
* Responsible for interfacing with multi-discipline teams in development of computer hardware
* Leading critical reviews and presentations of concepts to peers, partner teams and executives
* Collaborating with Azure's Hardware Development teams to ensure concepts will be manufacturable, reliable and provide positive TCO
Skills & Qualifications:
* BS/MS preferably in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience
* 9+ years of relevant experience in electrical or system level design across all stages of development and release cycles
* Experience with Cadence EDA tools
* Experience developing HW component and system level specifications
* Experience developing HW verification and functional test plans
* Experience working across disciplines and organizations to resolve complex issues
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Fundamental knowledge of the following HW design principals: Signal Integrity, Power, Analog and Digital Design, Computer Architecture
* Working knowledge of mechanical and thermal system design considerations
* Experience with Industry Safety Standards (UL)
