Microsoft announced in January 2020 that the company will be carbon negative by 2030. As part of our environmental sustainability work the Microsoft 365 Core team is building reporting for our customers to identify Office 365 carbon emissions made on behalf of their usage. Carbon emissions reporting is just the beginning as we help customers with their environmental sustainability concerns. We are looking for a technical program manager who loves data and wants to be part of this work. We are building new data pipelines to identify customer usage attributes that represent carbon.
The immediate work includes data extraction, analysis, quality validation, transformation, reporting, data warehouse loading, monitoring, and alerting. Data quality and alerting is extremely important to us as we must show accurate results to customers as part of our production systems both now and in the future. You will be working with developers, data engineers, data scientists, architects, and our partner teams across the Microsoft 365 organization for this project. We are just starting this investment with carbon emissions and there is a lot of work ahead, but you have opportunity to help influence future environmental sustainability features in Microsoft 365.
As a technical program manager focused on data you will write functional specifications, as well as data dictionaries and data contracts. You will be working with teams across all the Microsoft 365 product space to source usage data attributes that we need and with our partner teams in environmental sustainability. You will drive consensus on specification and other project defining documents and then you will work with developer teams who are building the features. You will be hands on with the data to evaluate quality, to troubleshoot customer issues, and to propose new feature opportunities. You will report on progress with metrics, report on and celebrate achievements with feature crews, and give introductory talks about the work both internally and with customers. You will also be involved in future semester planning as we consider other environmental sustainability requirements that our customers have.u202F
