Position Overview:
Within the Global Tools & Storage division of Stanley Black & Decker we are currently looking for a Packaging Engineer to join our Packaging organization. In this role, you will have the opportunity to innovate, design, and execute best-in-class unit packages and merchandising solutions for new product and existing packaging refresh. Sustainability principles will guide you as you develop packaging solutions and validate packaging components, working individually and in team efforts. Support multiple packaging initiatives including new product/packaging innovation and productivity projects in the areas of material, labor, and supply.
The Sr. Packaging Engineer will be responsible for supporting multiple projects with an understanding of time management and a sensitivity to priorities.
This position requires strong design and problem-solving skills. Experience in multi-project packaging design and development is a must, working directly with multiple business segments, global suppliers, and design teams. Experience in packaging operations from manufacturing and with warehouse and distribution systems. Strong problem resolution and decision- making skills. Able to resolve elevated issues, be creative and resourceful and display sound judgement and demonstrate accountability. Ability to work with cross functional teams and drive successful attainment of departmental and company goals with thoughtful well-rounded solutions. Ideal candidates should have strong organizational, planning, and project management skills. Have the ability to prioritize tasks for both self and support engineers to meet business requirements and deadlines. Have strong written and communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and problem-solving suggestions effectively.

Major Responsibilities:

* Execute packaging strategies to support new product development and existing product packaging activity within GTS specific business units
* Develop innovative, sustainable packaging design solutions to support brand development and distinction
* Work closely with Marketing, Product, and Supply Chain Teams to develop and define/create innovative packaging concepts
* Participate in cross functional teams to design, develop, and implement new packaging and/or packaging changes for quality and/or cost
* Evaluate supplier selection for packaging design, production, and pack out
* Collaborate with suppliers and global packaging support teams to develop packaging design, specifications, and implement improvements
* Collaborate with cross-functional, cross-organizational teams to ensure that open lines of communication and understanding of packaging needs and processes are understood
* Actively participate in marketing research programs including focus groups and trade shows to keep abreast of industry changes, new innovations, and equipment for updating designs and processes. Visit/evaluate current and potential new suppliers annually
* Strive for continuous improvement and best practices for global symmetry and organizational structure
* Provide guidance and mentoring to Packaging Engineers and Associate Packaging Engineers to develop professional skills and career goals
* Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures

Position Requirements:

* BS or BA in Packaging Engineering or Industrial Design
* Must have at least 5-7 years of Packaging Engineering related work experience within Consumer Products or a related industry
* Ability to work effectively with Marketing, Design, Product Development, and Supply Chain Teams regarding packaging execution
* Demonstrates Strategic and Critical Thinking with regards to structural packaging
* Expert knowledge of packaging related manufacturing processes including, but not limited to, printing, die-cutting, thermoforming, injection and blow molding
* Strong background in Artios CAD, TOPS/Cape and Adobe Creative Suite
* Excellent Microsoft Office skills
* Excellent organizational, project, and time management skills
* International /Global experience preferred
