Job Description

Workload Optimization and Software Architecture

Overview:
The data center is going through unprecedented levels of innovation. Intel's Data Platforms Group (DPG) drives new product technologies from high-end co-processors for supercomputers to low-energy systems for enterprise and the cloud, as well as solutions for big data and intelligent devices. The group is a worldwide organization that develops the products and technologies that power nine of every 10 servers sold worldwide.

The Memory & Storage Products Group (MSPG) is Intel DPG's memory center of excellence, aspiring to deeply understand our customers' data-centric problems and solving them by re-architecting the memory/storage hierarchy around Intel Optane persistent memory.

Within Peoples Republic of China (PRC), we have established the PRC Persistent Memory Center of Excellence (PRC PMem CoE), a cross-functional customer marketing & engineering team positioned to solve customers' issues and develop globally relevant workload proof points, code bases and best known methods and apply these solutions to our customers businesses, in order to grow global market share and drive PRC to over a quarter of Intel's persistent memory revenue.

The role of the PRC PMem CoE Workload Optimization and Software Architecture Engineer is to engage and collaborate with Intel PRC customers from different segments (e.g. Cloud, Enterprise, HPC, telecom, etc), advocating, enabling and scaling out optimized software solutions based on Intel's Persistent Memory (PMEM) technology to demonstrate Intel's architecture's advantage and keep customer's stickiness to IA platform and products.

Responsibilities:

* Clear requirements for test plans and metrics to support documentation of the PMEM advantages.

* Proposed solutions that demonstrate a performance/Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) advantage to end users, end-user POC enablement and support for these solutions.

* Influence across Intel and ISV/CSP/OEM to guide future product definition, required code enhancements and required testing/analysis needed to improve performance on PMEM and to enable application direct data persistence.

* Transform customer requirements to architecture inputs and use cases for product definition, influence engineering roadmap and PXT execution.

* Software architecture design for innovative software solutions based on Intel PMEM, drive end-to-end workload performance optimization for customer's critical workloads and usage cases to accelerate design wins.

* Conduct pathfinding for new workloads on PMEM, generate software optimization proposal and prove value proposition.

* Deliver customer training and ensure customer support in place.

* Contribute to PMEM collaterals related to workload and performance optimization.

* Collaborate with key Intel partners to enable broader ecosystem and help increase revenue opportunity.

The candidate must exhibit the following behavioral traits:

* Quick self-learning capability is a must.

* Strong sense of responsibility, flexibility and teamwork is a must.

* Good verbal and written communication skills.

Master and/or PhD degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering

2+ years of software development and debug experience and/or software performance analyzing and tuning experience in server/workstation and/or memory/storage product domain, preferably in the following areas:

* SNIA programming methodology and Persistent Memory Development Kit (PMDK)

* Software design and development on common multi-core, parallel computer architecture, and IA X86 architecture (e.g. Xeon uArch, Non-volatile memory feature, etc)

* Software workload tuning, including workload proximation, performance data collection, bottleneck analysis, and performance optimization across different layers of software stack

* Cloud, Data Center software (OpenStack, Hypervisor or Container based Orchestration system e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, OpenFaaS) is good plus.

* Workloads internal architecture (database, storage, bigdata) and workloads benchmark design.

* Software workload tuning, including workload proximation, performance data collection, bottleneck analysis, and performance optimization across different layers of software stack

1+ year of experience in the following programming languages:

* C/C++/Python programming

* Linux kernel, VM, container and related develop/debug tools

Preferred qualifications:

* Storage (Ceph, HDFS) and big data (Spark, Flink) is good plus.

Redis/RocksDB/MySQL NVM customization solution is preferred.

This position is not eligible for Intel immigration sponsorship.

Inside this Business Group
