Design at the Investment Banking Division (IBD)

The IBD team works on some of the most complex financial challenges and transactions in the market today. Whether advising on a merger, providing financial solutions for an acquisition, or structuring an IPO, we handle projects that help a diverse range of clients achieve major milestones.

The Role

We are looking for a Product Designer who possesses a broad skillset supporting an end-to-end user-centered-design approach to your work, as well as a more advanced skillset in Interaction and Interface Design. The majority of our work focuses on our internal enterprise systems which our bankers rely heavily on.

You should be comfortable with ambiguity and asking questions to form an understanding of a problem before you solve it and then, feel confident in your ability to translate those learnings and insights into thoughtful and detailed design artifacts. You should also understand the value of design systems and possess thoughtful judgement when working with one.

In this role, you will work directly with engineers, bankers, and senior stakeholders. You will have a large degree of autonomy and ownership over the final designs. So, the ability to understand your user, understand the problem youre solving, communicate your solution to it, and defend your design decisions is crucial to being successful.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

* Conduct shadowing activities, interviews, and leverages other research methods to discover requirements, pain points, and insights
* Define personas, user journeys, product concepts, and storyboards, and know when to use which or none at all
* Develop prototypes at varying levels of fidelity to facilitate the journey from rapid iteration to pixel-perfect handoff
* Utilize and improve upon our design language, interaction patterns, component set, and grid system to build consistency, reusability, and scalability
* Collaborate as part of an agile development team to ensure designs are feasible and implemented accurately

Basic Qualifications

* 5-7 years of professional experience designing digital products in a Product Design or Interaction Design role
* Experience designing for and with a component library and set of standard elements
* Experience designing for desktop and mobile, and an understanding of responsive design
* High degree of expertise and comfort using Sketch and Invision or Figma to design and develop prototypes
* Strong visual design skills, particularly with grid systems, typography, layout, and use of color
* A basic understanding of system design and information architecture
* Great presentation, workshop, and communication skills
* The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, to both lead and do
* A clean design aesthetic and the ability to simplify the complex by bringing a consumer grade experience to corporate banking
* A point-of-view on Product Design, and the willingness to ask why and propose alternate solutions to a problem
* A strong sense of ownership and advocacy for the end-user

Preferred Qualifications

* Skilled at designing data visualizations that illustrate large amounts of data in simple forms
* Experience designing micro-interactions and subtle animations that bring an extra level of sophistication to a digital product
* Service Design knowledge or experience with design thinking methods
* Experience designing for Financial Services
* Experience working on the client-side
